HIPE-REC®

High Performance Recovery
of Distillable Ionic Liquids

Distillable Ionic Liquids are used to selectively extract lignin from a lignocellulosic feedstock. Both HIPE-REC® product fractions (lignin and cellulose) are of high quality and can be converted to further products like textile fibers, fuels, cosmetic additives, and more.

HIPE-REC® Technology - valorize your biomass waste

the principle of the HIPE-REC process

HIPE-REC® - a breakthrough for Ionic Liquid recovery and recycling in biomass processing

This new technology combines the feedstock and process specific selection of special Distillable Ionic Liquids with the application of a thin-film high viscosity evaporation technology.

HIPE-REC®” technology (“High Performance Recovery” – patent pending WO2023084131):

Efficient DIL recycling

Virtually unlimited combinations

Protic Ionic Liquids

Protic Ionic Liquids are generally formed by proton transfer, upon neutralization of a Brønsted base with a Brønsted acid.

Therefore, most Protic Ionic Liquids are easily synthesized and inexpensive in their production.

The presence of mobile protons, a dense network of hydrogen bonds, and incomplete proton transfer contribute to their physico-chemical properties.

Potential Lignocellulosic Feedstocks

Key benefits

01

Ionic Liquid recycling rates >99%

Overall recycling rates of Ionic Liquids are greater than 99%. No production process waste is generated.

02

cost efficient Ionic Liquids

In comparison to standard Ionic Liquids, Distillable Ionic Liquids can be very cost efficient.

03

HIPE-REC® products are universally applicable

Both lignin and cellulose are a sources for a broad range of high-end products.

04

biomass valorization

Biomass waste can be transformed into other products instead of being disposed.

05

low production process costs

Ionic Liquids used in the production process are recycled, leading to high cost efficiency.

06

scale-up to ton level

Easy scale-up of the HIPE-REC® process to a full production level.

Further information on the HIPE-REC® process

dedicated equipment available

A specially designed reactor is available at proionic to ensure more efficient lignin extraction and evaporation of distillable ionic liquids compared to standard equipment.

benefit from proionic's network

proionic has applied the high-quality cellulose and lignin produced via the HIPE-REC® process to generate textile and technical fibers, biofuels, papaer, cosmetic additives etc. Long term relationships with partners have been established.
