"Ionic Liquids are highly ordered, like "runny" solids rather than liquids"
(Tom Welton)
Liquid Salts
Ionic Liquids are a new class of chemicals and are molten, organic salts that are liquid below 100°C. Some of these salts can even be liquid at temperatures as low as -90° C.
They are not solutions of ionic compounds in a molecular solventbut pure salts. Like all salts, they always consist of cations and anions.
Liquid over a wide temperature range due to organic nature of the ions.
02
non-flammable
Ionic Liquids have virtually no vapor pressure and do not burn below the decomposition point – they don’t have a boiling point.
03
high electrochemical stability
Stable from 0 – 4 Volts and compatible with a broad range of components inside a battery cell.
04
unusual solvent properties
Ionic Liquids have unmatched dissolution capacities towards various polymers and biopolymers.
05
high thermal stability
Many Ionic Liquids have a thermal long-term stability above 200°C and a short-term stability up to 400°C.
06
high electrical conductivity
Due to their ionic nature Ionic Liquids are always conductive – from µS/cm up to 50 mS/cm depending on the structure.
07
non-toxic
proionic’s main products used in the industry are REACH registered and non-toxic.
08
good material compatibility
Most Ionic Liquids are compatible with diverse classes of steel and other materials (e.g. seals, packaging materials).
09
high viscosity index
Together with low friction coefficients, low wear and low compressibility the high viscosity indices make them highly attractive for the usage in lubricants.
Tailormade Ionic Liquids
The physicochemical properties of Ionic Liquids can be adapted very well todifferent industry demands. proionic does this by functionalizing the cation and anion in a targeted manner and systematically combining various functionalized cations and anions with the powerful CBILS® manufacturing process for Ionic Liquids.
