Dr. Roland Kalb will give deep insights in recent industrial developments @7th Iberoamerican meeting on ionic liquids
By October 2024, about 100.000 scientific papers were published, and 28.000 patent applications were filed on ionic liquids [1]. The field experienced an archetypal hype cycle, with inflated expectations followed by a period of disillusionment around the year 2010, but has developed to a more mature status and has continued its upward trend for several years.
While there are no mass-scale applications today and the market remains behind the mid-term forecasts, there are many indications that ionic liquids will become a commercial success story. In 2008 only 13 ionic liquid applications have been commercialized or were under development on a pilot scale [2], while in 2019 this number increased already to 57 [3].
So where do we stand today? Dr. Kalb, Scientific Director @proionic will give an update on recent industrial developments at the 7th Iberoamerican meeting on ionic liquids.
He will explain, why the fields of energy storage, biomass and textile applications are on the run to cross the mass-scale barrier, resulting in a significant ionic liquid marked in just a couple of years.
